On March 8, we, like many others, celebrate International Women’s Day. Since 1911, International Women’s Day has been a tangible reminder for millions of people across the globe to honor the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. In these recent times, International Women’s Day also offers a poignant rallying cry—a call to action for accelerating women’s equity.

As the theme of International Women’s Day 2021 is #ChooseToChallenge, we at SCOJO New York are challenging ourselves to make real change in our community. In addition to donating, we also #ChooseToChallenge ourselves and others to uplift, amplify, support and promote women—not just on International Women’s Day, but year-round. To continue to work towards a world that is truly gender equitable.

We challenge ourselves and others to celebrate all women in their glorious multitudes.

This includes women of all shapes, sizes and ages.

This includes all the women whose voices can often go unheard in the noise of the quotidian world.

This includes individuals who do not identify solely or only as women, but who fluidly embrace and welcome the power of the feminine as part of their identities.

This includes women whose gender intersects with other identities: queer, trans and questioning women; Black and Indigenous women and all women of color; immigrant women; women with disabilities; women entrepreneurs; women activists; women educators; women in STEM; and women creatives, artists, and writers.
